The Farscape FanFic Awards
began with an idea to give fanfic authors more recognition and feedback for
their efforts of creating new adventures, resolving issues, and exploring possibilities
with the Farscape characters.The awards
were created in December 2000 and now have sculpted into a much larger concept.
The jist of the awards
is that we have a committee of judges who are assigned to specific categories. They choose
a handful of finalists from the entries they receive, which are emailed to them
by authors. These finalists are presented to the Scapers to vote upon. Then
the winners are announced, the fanfics are archived where ever possible on the
net, and virtual trophies are awarded.
The awards can only
exist with the support of Scapers everywhere...much like fanfiction itself.
Feedback has greatly influenced everything that makes the awards as you see
them today. The categories alone have greatly varied simply by suggestions. Scapers have voted on the finalists presented to them, choosing the best of the best.
Web sites have archived the winners every year, helping to expose the winning
fanfics to more readers. The committee of judges have always influenced decisions
regarding the awards, making them stronger.
You make this possible.
This will be the
final year that I will be running the Farscape Fanfic Awards. I am retiring
as both a Scaper and a fanifc writer not because Farscape is not continuing
on as a series, but because long before that, I became burned out. I couldn't
set aside enough time to really put all my efforts into the awards or my fanfic.
I had RL issues that demanded my attention. Finally, I realized what in life
makes me happiest and I've followed that dream. Today, I am ready to do what
it is I have always wanted. Thank you all for helping me realize what is most
important in life. And thank you for helping me give a little something back
to all of you.
